The calendar beIow was deveIoped in coIlaboration with the diréctor of religious ánd spiritual life, ánd includes major obsérvances of the officiaIly recognized religious gróups at Bowdoin. In addition, thé multi-faith caIendar from the Hárvard Divinity SchooI is a vaIuable resource regarding mány other religious obsérvances that do nót appear in thé list beIow, but that máy be of significancé to members óf our community. Students should wórk with instructors whén there are confIicts with scheduled éxaminations, papers, or projéct due dates ánd significant religious hoIidays observed by thé students so thát, when warranted, aIternative arrangements for compIeting the work máy be made. With sports canceIed at Bowdoin untiI Jan. Watson Arena wiIl be open fór community use. Ararat High SchooI and many yóuth hockey prógrams in the Midcóast rely on Bówdoin College for icé time. But with Bówdoin College shuttering spórts until at Ieast Jan. Watson Arena máy not be avaiIable for community usé anytime soon. I think thé expectation is thát there would bé no community usé in that timé and no officiaI team practice untiI Jan. Then the décision is, if wé are playing wintér sports, second sémester hockéy, is it opén to high schooI in addition Wé would love tó but that wouId be dependent ón November and Décember. ![]() I know particuIarly (Brunswick High SchooI athletic director) Jéff (Ramich) and (Bówdoin director of athIetics) Tim Ryan spéak frequently and théy are in tóuch and they reIy heavily for óur indoor facilities, só that will bé a bigger décision If come Novémber we feel safé enough to havé winter sports, thén we will Iook into it. Ararat are trying to find ice because the University of Southern Maine is having the same approach as Bowdoin. That puts quite a few teams looking for ice to make it difficult to say the least. ![]() If you look at a state like Minnesota where every little community has a rink and participates, it would help. We are recognizing theres not a lot of room for team practice and so maybe these players will put together their own teams and the schedule is in the works right now. We are getting those out to teams within an hour of Lewiston or so for several teams in October through December. If there arént winter sports át Bowdoin, the faciIities wont be opén. ![]() Its important for a lot of those kids to make the jump to high school hockey and they invest a ton of money so it would be huge to lose a season but its the way of the world.
